GRENADA — Turnovers and general miscues proved to be the Oxford Chargers undoing in their season opener against Grenada on Friday night. The officials controlling the clock on the field didn’t help matters either.

The Oxford Chargers all-sports booster club memberships for the 2011-2012 now on sale. Membership includes passes to all Oxford Chargers home athletic events except playoff games and invitational tournaments. Memberships start at $45 for individuals, but there are a variety of levels for any budget and family size. Reserved chairback seats for football games are available.

There were several new faces and numbers to learn for those who attended Thursday night’s summer league baseball game between Lafayette and Oxford at Edwin Moak Field. Less than a month after a veteran OHS team wrapped up the season against Ridgeland, coach Chris Baughman is having to re-tool his lineup with several younger members of the program. Former Oxford High tennis standout Will Huntington has made an impact for the Meridian Community College tennis team this spring. Huntington won 10 matches in a row at No. 3 doubles with partner Trey Webb. Huntington has also garnered nine wins in a row at the No. 4 and No. 5 singles position. MCC recently won the Region 23 tournament against a heavily favored ICC men’s team by collecting 11 points compared to 10 for the Indians. The team is now preparing to compete in the National Tournament in Plano, Texas May 15-20. (May 3, 2011, Page 6)
Errors ended up preventing the Oxford Chargers from earning a clean sweep in a baseball twinbill at W.V. Brewer Field on Saturday afternoon.
