    Oxford, WVHS set for Ole Miss Jamboree

    Oxford will face the same 11 opponents during the regular season this year that it played a season ago, but coach Johnny Hill thinks his squad’s slate will be even tougher. A large part of that has to do with the team the Chargers are playing in the preseason. (August 15, 2014, Page 6A)

      Oxford volleyball opens new gym with win

      Oxford High School’s volleyball season officially began Tuesday as the Lady Chargers hosted South Panola for their opening match of the season.  The Lady Chargers made short work of the Lady Tigers, who were playing volleyball for the first time in school history, winning 3-0 (25-5, 25-8, 25-7) in a match that took less than an hour to complete inside the newly built Oxford High gym. (August 13, 2014, Page 6A)

          Area football teams kick off fall practice

          Monday marked the first day of fall practice for high school football teams statewide. While Oxford got its season started under the lights during a midnight practice, the Lafayette Commodores and Water Valley Blue Devils waited for the sun to come up before starting their 2014 campaigns. (August 5, 2014, Page 6)

                MHSAA moves football title games to Ole Miss, MSU

                CLINTON — Mississippi’s high school football state championship games are leaving Jackson.

                The Mississippi High School Activities Association announced Monday it will be relocating the MHSAA Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi Gridiron Classic State Football Championships for all classifications to the campuses of Ole Miss and Mississippi State. (July 22, 2014, Page 8)

                  Three OHS athletes tabbed for Hasselman Award

                  Oxford High School handed out their annual Hasselman award at the end of the school year and for the second time in the award’s history there was a tie. Ethan Holmes and Kendall Jenkins finished in a deadlock after votes were tallied in the boys category. There was not as much drama when votes were counted for the girls award as Brandy Batoon won it. (July 3, 2014, Page 6)

                    Former OHS tennis player receives Ferris State’s Swears Courage Award

                    BIG RAPIDS, Mich. — For the first time in five years, a male student-athlete has been chosen as the recipient of Ferris State Athletics’ Jimmy Swears Courage Award. Senior Will Huntington of the Bulldog men’s tennis program was chosen as the honoree of the prestigious award for the recently-completed 2013-14 campaign. (July 2, 2014, Page 6)
