Barber hurls another no-hitter in OHS’s lastest win

Jason Barber wasn’t perfect, but he was close enough. Oxford’s junior right-hander overwhelmed Saltillo’s lineup from the start, hurling a no-hitter and helping the Chargers (15-0, 3-0 Division 2-5A) keep their perfect record intact with a 10-0 victory in five innings at Edwin Moak Field on Monday. (March 31, 2015, Page 6)

      Oxford tops ‘Dores with walk-off

Baseball’s version of the Crosstown Classic took center stage Thursday night as Oxford hosted crosstown rival Lafayette at Edwin Moak Field where the Chargers came away the victor in a 2-1 win.  Oxford (10-0) got a timely hit from pitcher Houston Roth in the bottom of the seventh inning scoring first baseman Jack McClure and giving the Chargers the walk-off win over the Commodores (5-4). (March 20, 2015, Page 2B)

Chargers win home opener 5-1, stay perfect

For the first time this season, the Oxford High baseball team was able to play at home. BASEBALL PREVIEW: Talent makes Chargers an easy target

Oxford spent last season hunting the best team in its division. In an ironic twist, the Chargers may very well be the hunted in 2015. There’s an entire outfield to replace as well as some pieces in the infield off a team that went 26-10 and made a run to the Class 5A North Half championship series a season ago, but Oxford isn’t lacking for talent. With three verbal commitments to the Southeastern Conference school in its backyard and a handful of junior college signees on the roster, it’s no secret Oxford will be one of the state’s top teams once again. (February 27, 2015, Page 7)

When Houston Roth got the chance to lock down his future in baseball, he didn’t waste any time. The Oxford High standout gave his verbal commitment to Ole Miss on Sunday. Roth visited the campus early in the day and gave his pledge to head coach Mike Bianco before leaving. (February 9, 2015, Page 6)

ALL-AREA BASEBALL: Houston Roth steps up game, earns POY award

Oxford High School right-hander Houston Roth was a sophomore who pitched like a seasoned veteran during the Chargers’ run to a North Half runner-up finish, and that performance earned him the Oxford EAGLE Player of the Year award for the 2014 season. (June 17, 2014, Page 1B)

New Hope bounces Chargers from playoffs

The second game between Oxford and New Hope in the Class 5A North Half finals followed a different script than the first, but unfortunately for the Chargers, the end result was the same. (May 19, 2014, Page 8)

New Hope blanks Oxford, takes series lead

NEW HOPE — Oxford didn’t give itself much of a chance against New Hope Thursday night.
The Chargers committed seven errors, Trojan starter Taylor Stafford fired a one-hit shutout, and New Hope eased its way to a 7-0 win at Trojan Field to take a 1-0 series lead in the MHSAA Class 5A North Finals. (May 16, 2014, Page 6A)

If Oxford’s going to play for a state championship this season, the Chargers will have to go through a familiar opponent in New Hope. (May 15, 2014, Page 8)
