Oxford’s stuns Starkville to head to 5A title game

Oxford girls split against CHHS, SHS
Oxford’s Lady Chargers split Saturday to open the season, defeating Southaven 1-0 before losing to Center Hill 1-0. Michelle Reid scored Oxford’s lone goal on a breakaway against SHS. Oxford’s junior varsity team defeated Center Hill 2-0 thanks to goals by Annabel Terry and Anna Abel. The Lady Chargers return to the pitch Tuesday at Corinth. (November 12, 2012, Page 5B)
OHS boys go undefeated to open season
The Oxford boys soccer team had a good start to its season Saturday, defeating Southaven 2-0 and tying Center Hill 0-0 at CHHS. Eddy Terry scored both goals for Oxford against SHS. Oxford returns to action Tuesday at Corinth. (November 12, 2012, Page 5B)
Pearl tops Oxford in 5A North Half match
An early lead and another valiant effort wasn’t enough to lift the Oxford Chargers past the Pearl Pirates in the Class 5A North Half title match Thursday at Pearl. Despite jumping out to a 1-0 lead in the first half on a goal from Lucian Duchaine, the seven-time state champion Pirates found a way to rally in the second half to post a 3-1 win and advance to Saturday’s 5A state title match.
OHS coach Jamie Perkins said he was proud of the way his team competed less than a week after defeating Callaway in a marathon match that was finally decided on penalty kicks. (February 4, 2011, Page 6A)
