Ole Miss making changes to three athletic facilities

The Board of Trustees of State Institute of Higher Learning approved three requests from the University of Mississippi on Thursday. The requests include a new name for the Basketball Practice Facility and changes to the football practice fields and the Gillom Sports Center. (June 20, 2014, Page 7A)

              Rebs fight through elements, top Tigers

              After completing the indoor season in Seattle 10 days ago, the No. 13 Ole Miss men’s tennis team turned their focus towards the outdoor season Wednesday when they hosted the Memphis Tigers. Conditions were not favorable, but after some early struggles, the Rebels managed to pull out a 4-2 win at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center.

                Rebels’ Scholtz to play for South Africa in Davis Cup

                It’s been a whirlwind year for Ole Miss men’s tennis sophomore Nik Scholtz, and this week he’s experiencing the thrill of a lifetime.

                Scholtz, who began the year as the highest ranked SEC player in the nation at No. 5, is in Montreal, Canada, representing his home country, South Africa, in the Davis Cup.                     Scholtz named SEC Freshman of Year

                    BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Ole Miss men’s tennis player Nik Scholtz was named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Year, while Marcel Thiemann and Jonas Lutjen joined him on the All-SEC team. The announcements were made this morning.

                    Scholtz becomes the first player in the history of the program to earn SEC Freshman of the Year honors. The Caledon, South Africa native, also named to the All-SEC first team and the All-Freshman Team, posted a 7-4 record in the SEC at No. 1 singles and teamed with Lutjen for a 9-2 league record in doubles.  Scholtz is presently ranked No. 13 in the nation in singles and doubles is the second highest ranked freshman in the country.  He was recently named to the SEC All-Tournament Team after helping lead the Rebels to the semifinals for the 15th time. (April 26, 2012, Page 6)
