Ole Miss soccer

Lady Rebels continue winning ways

Rafaelle Souza delivered her fourth goal of the season in the 12th minute of Sunday’s match to deliver a 1-0 victory for Ole Miss (4-0) over the Ragin’ Cajuns of Louisiana-Lafayette (2-1) at the Ole Miss Soccer Stadium.

Olivia Harrison found Alix Hildal out wide with the initial pass, allowing Hildal to cross the ball into the box for Souza who found the back of the net. It was the first game-winning goal of the season for Souza, who leads the team with four goals on the year. (August 27, 2012, Page 3B)

      Lady Rebs looking to rebound

The Ole Miss soccer and volleyball programs have had a rather difficult week.

While the soccer squad lost at No. 20 Tennessee 4-3 in overtime on Friday and then 3-0 at Georgia on Sunday, the volleyball Rebs lost to Kentucky 3-1 (25-19, 19-25, 25-14, 25-19) on Friday and to No. 19 Tennessee 3-2 (25-22, 17-25, 21-25, 25-21, 15-13) on Sunday. Strong second half lifts Lady Rebels to win

Monday’s Ole Miss soccer match fit the term “tale of two halves” perfectly.

After scrapping back and forth with The Citadel only to take a 1-1 tie into the half, the Lady Rebels exploded for five goals after the break to top the visiting Lady Bulldogs 6-1. (September 13, 2011, Page 6)

Both the Ole Miss soccer and volleyball programs will be looking to get back in the win column this weekend after working through difficult road trips last week.

Preseason camp underway for Ole Miss

The Ole Miss soccer team’s intrasquad scrimmage on Wednesday night had virtually everything, from acrobatic saves and hard challenges to fast-break scoring opportunities.

OM’s Mott looking forward to Year 2

To say the Ole Miss soccer team is in a different place today as opposed to this time last year would be a big understatement.

Heading into pre-season camp last season, first-year coach Matthew Mott was still learning the ropes in Oxford, and, as the former Texas and Auburn assistant admitted on Wednesday, he still hadn’t met eight of his players.

Coupled with trying to install his system and it proved to be a hectic introduction to the world of being a head coach in the Southeastern Conference. (more…) (July 28, 2011, Page 8A)

Former Rebel tabbed to lead Oxford girls

A clear vision for the future of the Oxford High girls soccer program is just one of the many reasons Laura Flint was chosen as the Lady Chargers’ new coach. The former Ole Miss player, who was officially approved by the school board Monday night, possesses several qualities that OHS athletics officials think will help make a program that has consistently made the playoffs and won the Division 1-5A title last year. (July 12, 2011, Page 6)
