Wahl promoted to role as Rebels’ closer

As it turns out Bobby Wahl’s appearance at the end of Sunday’s victory was somewhat of a tryout.

Sunday’s ninth inning performance wasn’t a save situation, but with Jake Morgan’s future still uncertain and the struggles of Brett Huber at the end of games, Ole Miss coach Mike Bianco wanted to see how the Virginia native could handle pitching at the end of games. Wright, Rebs come alive to avoid sweep

When his team needed him the most Ole Miss starter Austin Wright delivered with one of his “on” days.

Facing its first Southeastern Conference series sweep since Auburn took three in Oxford last May, Wright limited Georgia to three runs in 6.0 innings to help the Rebels earn a 12-7 victory at Oxford-University Stadium. (more…) (April 11, 2011, Page 1B)

Rebels’ Poole making most of his opportunity

Given his first real chance, Jordan Poole didn’t disappoint.

After receiving five plate appearances through the first 30 games of the season, Poole, a freshman outfielder from Calhoun, Ga., was awarded his first start of the season on Friday against Georgia and made head coach Mike Bianco look like a smart guy. (more…) (April 11, 2011, Page 1B)

Rebels look to focus on at-bats, Dawgs

Tuesday night the Diamond Rebels accumulated just one hit through the first seven innings against Memphis starter Sam Moll.

Ole Miss coach Mike Bianco didn’t want to take anything away from what the left-hander had done, but he wasn’t quite ready to give him all the credit for the Rebels’ sluggish offense that failed to slug in more than two runs. (more…) (April 8, 2011, Page 6A)

Tigers rip apart Rebels in Memphis

From an Ole Miss perspective there wasn’t a lot of positives to take away from Tuesday’s 9-2 loss to Memphis at AutoZone Park.

After a scoreless first inning, the Rebels (19-11 overall) surrendered six runs in the second inning and never came close to challenging for the lead. (April 6, 2011, Page 6)
