As if getting used to new players with new abilities wasn’t enough during the 2010 fall ball season, the Ole Miss baseball team — and every other college program in the country, for that matter — will have to adapt to using new “BBCOR” bats this fall in order to play with them during the spring season.
Two years ago, the NCAA passed a rule in which all bats used by teams must be “BBCOR” certified by Jan. 1, 2011.
The new certification (which stands for batted ball coefficient of restitution) refers to the way bats are tested.
Instead of measuring the speed of the ball after it is batted, BBCOR measures the “bounciness” of the ball and bat, or the “trampoline effect”. (September 22, 2010, Page 6)
