Noxubee County holds on to top LHS
CORINTH — Lafayette’s first trip to the MHSAA Class 4A North Half Tournament was shorter than coach Nacoma James and his Commodores were hoping for. Despite another strong effort on defense, the Commodores were unable to overcome a handful of empty possessions on offense late and some timely free-throw shooting by Noxubee County. The end result for the Commodores was a 55-52 setback to the Tigers, who will now play host Corinth tonight at 6 for the right to advance to Jackson.

LHS Commodores capture 4A North Half title
The No. 1 ranked football team in Class 4A all season is just one win away from actually being crowned as the best.
Lafayette’s Commodores advanced to Jackson to play in the MHSAA’s 4A state championship game for the second straight season after defeating Noxubee County 20-0 Friday night in the 4A North Half title game.
Friday’s win didn’t necessarily come easy for LHS (15-0 overall), but a defense that has been tremendously consistent all season long continued to shine and make things even tougher for the Tigers (13-2) on offense that it was on the Commodores, who have now only allowed 19 points in four playoff games. Consistent Commodores ready for Tigers
The goal of returning to Jackson for the MHSAA Class 4A state title game is now just one win away from happening No. 1 Lafayette Commodores. LHS (14-0 overall) advanced to Friday’s 4A North Half title game against Noxubee County (13-1) with a convincing 35-0 win over previously unbeaten New Albany.
Consistency, coupled with superior talent, has been two of the biggest keys for the Commodores to return to this lofty position and coach Anthony Hart said he’s been pleased with how well his team has handled things the first 14 weeks of the season. (November 25, 2010, Page 8A)
