Blue Devils tangle with much-improved Cougars
Friday’s home game with North Panola isn’t a typical playoff opener for the Water Valley Blue Devils. According to WVHS coach Brad Embry, the Cougars (5-5 overall) are much better than most teams that his Blue Devils (9-2) would ever face in a first round. (November 1, 2012, Page 8)
LHS-North Panola canceled
Lafayette’s basketball games against North Panola, originally scheduled for 6 p.m. today, have been canceled for today. A makeup date has not been set. Seeding for next week’s District 2-4A Tournament is still undecided. (February 4, 2011, Page 6A)
Cougars no match for 7-0 ‘Dores
Lafayette’s march towards a second-straight Region 2-4A title continued with another dominating performance on both sides of the ball Friday night. The No. 1 Commodores had their way from the start with the North Panola Cougars in a game that eventually turned into a one-sided 49-0 win.
LHS (7-0 overall, 3-0 Region 2-4A) has only been challenged for a half in its three region games so far this season, a fact that means the Commodores are actually playing more against themselves than the opponent on the field each week. (October 4, 2010, Page 5B)
Focus a big part of LHS gameplan
Focus was a big reason for the Lafayette Commodores’ 52-0 win over Byhalia last Friday night. A week after getting off to a slow start against Center Hill, the Commodores jumped on the Indians quickly en route to the one-sided win.
For LHS coach Anthony Hart, whose team resumes Region 2-4A play Friday against North Panola (0-5, 0-1), the key is to not have a lack of focus hurt the No. 1 Commodores (6-0, 2-0). (September 30, 2010, Page 8)
