Oxford shows maturity in win over NHS

Chris Baughman may be in his first season as Oxford High’s head baseball coach, but he seems to have already mastered the delivery of the between-inning speech.

Baughman’s discussion with his players after the visiting New Hope Trojans scored four runs off OHS starter James Lear in the top of the first inning on Friday was brief and to the point. More importantly than the duration, the message got the Chargers re-focused enough to allow their talent and maturity to take over. (more…) (March 28, 2011, Page 1B)

Oxford boys, girls cruise in Round 1

The Oxford boys and girls basketball teams could not have gotten their postseasons started much better than they did on Tuesday at the West Point gym.

While it took the girls a quarter and a half to really get going during their 57-35 victory over the New Hope Lady Trojans in the first round of the District 2-5A Tournament, the Chargers took it to Saltillo from the opening tip and turned a 22-point halftime lead into a 75-39 victory.

Chargers looking for revenge on New Hope

Two games stood out on the Oxford Chargers’ schedule as revenge games: Charleston and New Hope.

The Chargers (3-1overall) have already avenged their loss to the Tigers in convincing fashion, now they have their sights set on Friday’s opponent, 2-2 New Hope.

Last year at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, the Chargers dropped a 21-11 decision to the Trojans, who would go on to play for the North half title. The loss is one that head coach Johnny Hill called the most embarrassing of his career. (September 23, 2010, Page 6)
