Four held in murder
Three men – Willie Anthony Canon, 24; Justin Eugene Montez, 25; and Adam Corey Ferguson, 20 – and one woman – Kasie Lynn Jones, 20 – have been arrested in connection with the Thursday beating death of Derald “Pete” Connell. Man beaten to death
The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the murder of a 69-year-old man who was allegedly beaten to death in the county at about 9 p.m. Thursday.
Derald “Pete” Connell, 69, died from injuries he received from an assault that took place off Highway 6 East, in the area of the county near the Brittany Woods subdivision, Investigator Scott Mills said. (April 5, 2010, Page 1A)
Murder in Lafayette County
The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the murder of a 69-year-old man who was allegedly beaten to death in the county at about 9 p.m. last night.
Investigators are not releasing how the victim, Derald “Pete” Connell, was killed; only that he was the victim of an assault.
Investigator Scott Mills said the assault took place off Highway 6 East near Oxford.
“We have no motives at this time,” Mills said. “Although, we do have some suspects.” (April 2, 2010)
Family raises money for information on murder
Willie Frank Bowie’s family has raised additional funds to add to the CrimeStoppers reward for information leading the arrest and conviction of his killer. According to Lafayette County Sheriff’s Investigator Scott Mills, there is now a $2,000 reward being offered. (February 22, 2010, Page 1)
