Hensley, Yankees remain in contract negotiations

Ty Hensley isn’t having what you might consider a typical summer for a recent high school graduate.

While most are either applying for jobs at the local burger hut or getting a jump start on college, the Edmond, Okla., native has spent the better part of his summer negotiating with the New York Yankees. (more…) (July 10, 2012, Page 6)

Waguespack expects to pitch for Rebels

Heading into the 2012 MLB First-Year Players Draft, Jacob Waguespack spread the word it would take a very lucrative offer to pry him away from his commitment to play college ball at Ole Miss.

Professional teams took note and despite being projected as a potential early-round talent, the 6-foot-6, 215-pound right-handed pitcher slid to the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 37th round. (June 14, 2012, Page 6)

Trio of Rebels drafted on Day 2

Monday didn’t provide the ending to the college season that Ole Miss was hoping for, but perhaps Tuesday’s news will supply a little solace for three Diamond Rebels.

During Day 2 of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, Alex Yarbrough, Matt Snyder and Dylan Chavez were selected by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox respectively. (more…) (June 6, 2012, Page 2B)

Former Ole Miss standout Stephen Head had a good debut with the Tri City Dust Devils, the Class A short-season affiliate of the Colorado Rockies, on Sunday. The hitter-turned-pitcher struck out five while allowing just one hit and one walk in three innings.

Head is a former second-round draft pick of the Cleveland Indians (2005). (June 20, 2011, Page 9)
