    City officials to seek funds for pedestrian bridge, tennis courts

    The Oxford Board of Aldermen gave the go-ahead to city officials to take the next steps toward a new pedestrian bridge over Highway 6 from the Old Taylor Road exit and the expansion of 12 new tennis courts. (January 4, 2012, Page 2)

      Cannon car dealership to move west

      The Oxford Planning Board approved the site plan for Cannon Motors to move from it’s West Jackson Avenue location to 8 acres of land off Highway 6 West and Thacker Road. (December 13, 2011, Page 2)

        Safety Fair slated for Saturday

          Road projects get green light

          Three major road projects aimed at improving safety and easing transit headaches got green-lighted Wednesday by local officials, but only after some heated negotiations. (May 26, 2011, Page 1)

            Another roadblock to safety?

            If city and county officials sign a memorandum of understanding with the Mississippi Department of Transportation, an improved intersection at Highway 6 and West Jackson Avenue could still be three years out.

            But whether that MOU will be signed anytime soon is still under debate by city and county officials. Both sides have admitted in public meetings to having “issues” with the MOU. (April 19, 2011, Page 1A)

              MDOT helps keep Mississippi beautiful

              Mississippi Department of Transportation of the District 2 office — that covers 17 counties including Lafayette County — will be cleaning up area highways from 8 a.m. to noon on Thursday as part of the annual Trash Bash event. (April 13, 2011, Page 2)

                County upset with MDOT, MOU

                During their regular meeting Monday, the Lafayette County Board of Supervisors agreed to meet with city officials to go over a joint MOU with the Mississippi Department of Transportation in regards to three local projects including the interchange at the West Jackson Avenue/Highway 6 intersection. Both city and county officials have expressed concerns about MDOT changing previously agreed upon details. Other issues discussed Monday included United Way’s Excel by 5 application; a  redistricting resolution and property being transfered for the new Winchester plant. (April 5, 2011, Page 2A)

                  Bumpy road ahead for transit projects

                  A public meeting held Tuesday, sponsored by the Mississippi Department of Transportation, laid out MDOT’s 25-year plan on what Mississippi’s transportation needs are now and what they are predicted to be in 2035 as well as how to fund the growing demands with diminishing funding. (March 23, 2011, Page 1)

                    Bridge replacement project coming to a close

                    The replacement of three bridges on Highway 331 in the Yocona/Tula area are coming to an end, according to Mississippi Department of Transportation officials. The total cost of the project was $3,771,450. (January 27, 2011, Page 1)
