If city and county officials sign a memorandum of understanding with the Mississippi Department of Transportation, an improved intersection at Highway 6 and West Jackson Avenue could still be three years out.

County upset with MDOT, MOU
During their regular meeting Monday, the Lafayette County Board of Supervisors agreed to meet with city officials to go over a joint MOU with the Mississippi Department of Transportation in regards to three local projects including the interchange at the West Jackson Avenue/Highway 6 intersection. Both city and county officials have expressed concerns about MDOT changing previously agreed upon details. Bumpy road ahead for transit projects
A public meeting held Tuesday, sponsored by the Mississippi Department of Transportation, laid out MDOT’s 25-year plan on what Mississippi’s transportation needs are now and what they are predicted to be in 2035 as well as how to fund the growing demands with diminishing funding. Bridge replacement project coming to a close
The replacement of three bridges on Highway 331 in the Yocona/Tula area are coming to an end, according to Mississippi Department of Transportation officials. The total cost of the project was $3,771,450. (January 27, 2011, Page 1)
Training session ensures transit funds eligibilty
To be eligible to receive any grants from the Mississippi Department of Transportation, representatives from Oxford and Lafayette County governments will need to attend a training session Thursday to learn the correct way to apply for federal money from MDOT. (January 12, 2011, Page 2A)
Oxford spared icy roads
With dozens of schools closing in neighboring north Mississippi counties due to icy roadways and two weather-related deaths reported this morning, Lafayette County was spared the worst of the dangerous wintry mix this morning. Lafayette County Road Manager Jerry Haynie and his road crew took to the roads at 5 this morning checking for icy accumulations on county roads.
The temperature hung around 32 degrees this morning, causing some icy patches to form on local roads, but not enough to cause traffic problems in Oxford and Lafayette County. County, city discuss road projects
Lafayette County supervisors and Oxford officials met Monday with Mississippi Department of Transportation District Engineer Richard Allen to discuss the future of three area road projects, including the interchange at West Jackson Avenue and Highway 6, and extending West Oxford Loop to FNC Park. Bike lane project hits roadblock
Pathways Phase II once again stalled after bids for the project came back much higher than expected. The commission and engineers will work to revisit the plans with Mississippi Department of Transportation before rebidding out the project. (September 8, 2010, Page 3)
