The Lafayette volleyball team faced off against a somewhat familiar foe on Tuesday.
After being over-powered on Aug. 25 at Lafayette, the Lady Blue Devils played a competitive match in the return trip on Thursday, falling to the Lady Commodores 3-1 (26-24, 25-18, 24-26, 25-21).
Even if the end result was still a loss, it was obvious at Water Valley’s auxiliary gym that the Lady Blue Devils have made significant strides as a team under first-year coach Casey Clouse. (September 9, 2011, Page 8A)
After dropping the first two sets, Lafayette rallied to claim a 3-2 (22-25, 22-25, 25-14, 25-22, 15-9) victory at the LHS gym. (September 2, 2011, Page 9A)

Quick starts in all three matches by Oxford, coupled with Lafayette’s inability to get into a groove until it was too late, led to the Lady Chargers claiming a 3-0 (25-14, 25-22, 25-23) victory in the Crosstown Classic’s volleyball edition at the OHS gym on Thursday.
The match marked the first time in three seasons that the Lady Chargers have come away with the crosstown victory.

Lafayette’s home volleyball opener went the way coach Rachel Wenzel was hoping with a 3-0 (25-3, 25-7, 25-8) win over H.W. Byers. LHS improved its record to 1-1 with the victory.
Rae Drewrey was fantastic as a server in the win as she recorded 25 aces, including 19 in a row in the first game. Drewrey also had a solo block and a kill in the victory for the Lady Commodores, who used Tuesday’s match as a tune-up heading into Thursday’s contest at Oxford. (more…) (August 17, 2011, Page 7)
