LHS has its hands full with Lady Bruins tonight
Lafayette’s quest for its first state volleyball title officially gets underway tonight in Madison with its Class I first-round matchup against St. Joseph Catholic School.

OHS ends season with win over LHS
It wasn’t pretty, but the Oxford Chargers volleyball squad was able to conclude their season on Thursday with a 2-0 (26-24, 25-18) defeat of crosstown rival Lafayette at the LHS gym.

LHS volleyball tops Byhalia
The Lafayette volleyball team earned a lopsided victory at Byhalia on Thursday, topping the Lady Indians 3-0 (25-15, 25-8, 25-7) to improve to 6-4 overall. Ashley Smith led LHS with eight kills, while Holly Robinson had a team-best seven aces. Lafayette returns to the court on Tuesday at Lewisburg. (September 16, 2011, Page 7A)

Lafayette downs improved Lady Devils
WATER VALLEY — The Water Valley volleyball team has showed marked improvement over the course of the last two weeks.
After being over-powered on Aug. 25 at Lafayette, the Lady Blue Devils played a competitive match in the return trip on Thursday, falling to the Lady Commodores 3-1 (26-24, 25-18, 24-26, 25-21).
Even if the end result was still a loss, it was obvious at Water Valley’s auxiliary gym that the Lady Blue Devils have made significant strides as a team under first-year coach Casey Clouse. (September 9, 2011, Page 8A)
LHS overcomes slow start, tops Senatobia
Rachel Wenzel was momentarily speechless following her Lady Commodores’ volleyball match against Senatobia on Thursday evening.

OHS rides fast starts to crosstown sweep
Quick starts in all three matches by Oxford, coupled with Lafayette’s inability to get into a groove until it was too late, led to the Lady Chargers claiming a 3-0 (25-14, 25-22, 25-23) victory in the Crosstown Classic’s volleyball edition at the OHS gym on Thursday.
The match marked the first time in three seasons that the Lady Chargers have come away with the crosstown victory.

Lady ‘Dores make quick work of H.W. Byers
Lafayette’s home volleyball opener went the way coach Rachel Wenzel was hoping with a 3-0 (25-3, 25-7, 25-8) win over H.W. Byers. LHS improved its record to 1-1 with the victory.
Rae Drewrey was fantastic as a server in the win as she recorded 25 aces, including 19 in a row in the first game. Drewrey also had a solo block and a kill in the victory for the Lady Commodores, who used Tuesday’s match as a tune-up heading into Thursday’s contest at Oxford. (more…) (August 17, 2011, Page 7)
Prep volleyball set to get going
While the area football teams are braving the blistering heat, the prep volleyball squads are busting their tails in their respective gyms preparing for their season openers. While Oxford opens its season this weekend in Jackson at the Set It Off Challenge, Lafayette and Water Valley begin on Tuesday.
Water Valley will be led by first-year coach Casey Clouse, who admits it could be an interesting first season with the Lady Blue Devils. (August 5, 2011, Page 9A)
