Lafayette closes out track & field season on high note

Lafayette wrapped up its track season Monday in the MHSAA Class 4A state meet held at Pearl High School. The Lady Commodores garnered another top five finish as they placed third with 55 points. The Commodores, meanwhile, totaled 23 points to come in 10th out of 34 teams. Pontotoc won the 4A girls title with 82 points. Corinth was second with 78. Tylertown won the 4A boys title with 112 points. St. Stanislaus was a distant second with 50 while Corinth was third with 45.

    Bevy of athletes prepare for MHSAA state meet

    Athletes from Oxford, Lafayette and Water Valley will be taking part in the MHSAA state track meets this weekend. The Class 1A, 3A and 5A meets will be held Saturday at Pearl. The 2A, 4A and 6A meets will be held Monday at PHS. Saturday’s meets begins with field events at 10 a.m. Monday’s meets begins at 11 a.m.

      Buford, Hamann pace Lafayette at 4A meet

      A handful of Lafayette Lady Commodores finished first to help lead the team to a third-place finish at Saturday’s MHSAA Class 4A North Half meet held at Pontotoc. The Lady Commodores totaled 82 points to tie with Noxubee County. Pontotoc won the meet with 121 points. On the boys side, the Commodores finished with 33 points, good for eighth place.         Buford leads LHS track & field athletes

        The Lafayette Commodores and Lady Commodores will return to the track Saturday at Pontotoc for the MHSAA Class 4A North Half meet. Both squads were in action this past weekend at Tishomingo County. (May 3, 2013, Page 10A)

          LHS girls continue run through 2-4A

          Lafayette’s girls track team continued its dominance at the Division 2-4A meet Tuesday with another victory. The Lady Commodores garnered 203 total points to win their second straight title and third in four years. Tuesday’s meet was held at Lewisburg. (more…) (April 17, 2013, Page 9)

              OHS dominates EAGLE Invitational

              Oxford’s track teams opened the 2013 season with a bang as both squads won Saturday’s Oxford EAGLE Invitational meet held at Bobby Holcomb Field. The Chargers more than doubled up second-place finisher West Bolivar (220-98) to win first place, while the Lady Chargers finished with 157 points, 25 more than second-place finisher Independence.                 EAGLE Invitational set for Saturday at OHS

                Prep track returns to the area Saturday with the annual Oxford EAGLE Invitational at Oxford’s Bobby Holcomb Field. This year’s field includes the Chargers and Lady Chargers, Lafayette’s Commodores and Lady Commodores as well as teams from Pontotoc, Cleveland-East Side, Independence and West Bolivar.                   Lady ‘Dores burn up track in 4A meet

                  PEARL — If someone didn’t know what the points total was, they would have thought the Lafayette Lady Commodores were about to win Monday’s MHSAA Class 4A state track meet at Pearl High School by the way they finished the 4×400 meter relay.

                  Led by a scorching-fast anchor leg turned in by Mariah Buford, the Lady Commodores punctuated a very successful day on the track with a first-place finish in the relay with a new best-in-class time of 4 minutes, 9.79 seconds. The victory was just one of many reasons why the Lady ‘Dores broke a school in points (78) and finished a clear-cut second for the second straight season. (more…) (May 15, 2012, Page 6)

                    Nine Lady Commodores qualify for state meet

                    Nine Lafayette Lady Commodores qualified for the upcoming MHSAA Class 4A meet that will be held at Pearl Saturday. The Lady Commodores and Commodores competed in the 4A North Half meet hosted by Charleston this past Saturday, but no official results have been posted to know where both teams finished.
