    Lafayette tops North Pontotoc to open division play

    Lafayette’s 6-1 win over North Pontotoc Thursday not only gave the Commodores their second straight win in tennis, it also gave them a 1-0 start in Division 2-4A play.           Troopers outlast ‘Dores to win 4-3

          A hard-fought match that was decided in doubles play didn’t come out in favor of the Lafayette Commodores Monday. In their season opener at the Oxford-University Stadium tennis courts, the Commodores fell 4-3 to Mooreville.

              Former LHS standout receives honor from MTA

              Former Lafayette High tennis standout Mallory Davis was selected by the Mississippi Tennis Association as a recipient of the George Wilkinson Memorial Award. Davis, a freshman tennis player at Meridian Community College, won the award given to a top male or female junior player who exemplifies the qualities of composure under physical stress and emotional discipline in recognition of their desire, integrity, perseverance and maturity, both on and off the court.                 Lafayette’s run comes to an end at North Half

                  Commodores take down Kosciusko in playoff opener

                  Lafayette got off to a great start in the Class 4A playoffs Monday morning with a 6-1 win over Kosciusko on the road. Lafayette swept the doubles action to gain the match win, while Mallory Davis peformed well in her singles match. Davis defeated Jessica Reynolds 6-0, 6-2 to gain the victory for LHS.                     ‘Dores advance six to state tournament

                    Lafayette qualified six tennis players for next month’s MHSAA individual state tournament Thursday afternoon. The Commodores competed against New Albany, Senatobia, North Pontotoc, Tunica-Rosa Fort and Lewisburg in the Division 2-4A individual tournament held at the John Leslie Courts.
