Sisk caps perfect senior year with POY award
Oxford’s Erika Sisk must have felt like she was in a whirlwind the past 30 days. It was exactly a month ago that the standout point guard led the Lady Chargers to their first Class 5A title in school history and the school’s first undefeated season at 33-0.
Moments after celebrating and holding up the coveted MHSAA gold ball with her teammates, Sisk found out she had been named to the Mississippi-Alabama All-Star game and a few days after that, she was tabbed to the All-State team. (more…) (April 4, 2012, Page 1B)

Lady ‘Dores advance to Jackson with win
PONTOTOC — Lafayette’s Lady Commodores continued their magical postseaon run and advanced to Jackson for the upcoming MHSAA Class 4A state tournament by knocking off Senatobia 58-52 Friday night in the Pontotoc gym. While the Lady Commodores (15-14 overall) were unable to defeat Pontotoc to win the 4A North Half championship on Saturday, LHS coach Amy Sutton could only focus on the positive, which is a return trip the “Big House” for the right to play for the 4A title. LHS shoots it, steals it in Round 1 win
CARTHAGE —The Lafayette Lady Commodores attacked Leake Central in two phases Monday night.

New Albany edges Lady ‘Dores
An early lead didn’t hold for the Lafayette Lady Commodores lost 49-47 to New Albany in the Division 2-4A Tournament Friday. Mykira Buford and Mariah Buford each scored 10 points in the loss. Mariah Hariston had nine points, while Janae Westbrook scored eight. Mariah Buford also had seven steals, while Mykira Buford finished with 10 assists. (more…) (February 13, 2012, Page 2B)
Lady ‘Dores defeated by Lady Vikings in semifinals
NEW ALBANY — A chance for the Lafayette Lady Commodores basketball team to claim a second consecutive district tournament championship was sunk Thursday night by the North Pontotoc Lady Vikings.
A strong effort late in the game was not enough to overcome a sluggish start for the Lady ‘Dores at the New Albany Middle School Gym, as Lafayette fell 62-48 to the Lady Vikings in the semifinals of the Division 2-4A Tournament. (more…) (February 10, 2012, Page 7A)
LHS grabs OT wins over Holly Springs
Lafayette girls basketball coach Amy Sutton didn’t expect to see her team playing an overtime session against Holly Springs on Tuesday in the LHS gym. Neither did Lafayette’s boys coach Nacoma James, who also saw his team play an extra period.
Instead of receiving Senior Night goodies at around 7:30, the Lady Commodores had to accept them at 7:50 as they took a little extra time to finish off the scrappy Lady Hawks. (more…) (February 1, 2012, Page 7)
