Roberts named Officer of the Year

Capt. Darren Roberts, with the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department received the Officer of the Year award Tuesday night during the annual Lafayette County Law Enforcement Officers Association’s awards dinner. Linda Sockwell, parking enforcer with the Oxford Police Department won the Support Personnel of the Year award. (February 9, 2012, Page 1)

    Lafayette Sheriff’s Department investigating two dog killings

    Lafayette County Crimestoppers is offering two $500 rewards for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for killing two dogs in the last week in separate incidents. One dog was shot and one was found on fire inside of a box on the road. (January 9, 2012, Page 2)

        Wreck involving a horse injures two

          Metro Narcotics busts 25 on drug charges

          The Lafayette County Metro Narcotics Unit, along with other area law enforcement agencies arrested 22 Oxford residents on various drug sale charges, with crack sales heading up the list. The arrests were part of an undercover operation called, “Operation Knight Rider.”  Another three were arrested this weekend in an unrelated investigation. (October 19, 2011, Page 2)

            Game day weekend keeps police busy

            Local law enforcement officers had little time to rest during the biggest SEC football home-game weekend thus far this season.

              Two arrested in unrelated armed robberies

              OPD investigators arrested Morgan Henry, 22, of Oxford for allegedly holding up the Oxford Family Pharmacy for pain medication two weeks ago. Sheriff Department investigators arrested Reggie Benson, 24, of Oxford for being one of several involved in a home invasion robbery Friday. More arrests are expected.

                Local law enforcement officials warn against scams

                The Oxford Police Department and the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department want to warn the public about falling victim to scams where they are told they have won money in a sweepstakes and all they have to do, is wire them a “handling fee.” (July 13, 2011, Page 2)

                    Sheriff reports looting in Pine Flat

                    The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department is patrolling the Pine Flat and Yocona areas in hopes to ward of looters after a tornado last week left dozens of homes unsecured and personal items scattered about yards. (May 4, 2011, Page 2)
