Lafayette’s Gray gets a complete game win

VIDEO BLOG:  Lafayette defeated North Pontotoc 5-2 on Saturday night at W.V. Brewer Field thanks to a great pitching effort from Cody Gray. Here are Gray’s thoughts about his performance and how the team played heading into tonight’s final game in the Class 4A playoff series.

        LHS opens 4A playoff series with Kosciusko

        Lafayette’s goal to reach Jackson and play in the MHSAA’s Class 4A state tournament begins tonight with a first-round, best-of-three series against Kosciusko at W.V. Brewer Field. First pitch is set for 7 tonight for the Commodores (20-4) and the Whippets (13-12), who finished as the No. 3 seed out of Division 4. (April 22, 2011, Page 6A)

          Lafayette qualifies six tennis players for state

          Six members of the Lafayette tennis team won two matches at the Division 2-4A Tournament to advance to MHSAA individual state tournament this week.  The No. 1 boys doubles team of Hunter Knight and Jacob Roberts made the list as did the No. 1 girls doubles team of Lauren Cullen and Ashley Smith. Also advancing were the mixed doubles team of Mallory Davis and Barron Pruitt. The state tournament will be held May 9-10 in Jackson. (April 22, 2011, Page 7A)

                Lafayette splits district games with Lewisburg

                There were more signs the Lafayette Commodores were starting to come together as a boys basketball team Friday night in a matchup with Lewisburg in the LHS gym. The Commodores may have lost 48-43 to the visiting Patriots, but instead of falling behind early and eventually losing by double digits, the Commodores showed some grit by rallying from an eight-point deficit in the in the third quarter to pull into the lead late in the fourth quarter. (December 20, 2010, Page 6)

                  ‘Dores complete perfect season

                  JACKSON — History.
                  That’s what the Lafayette Commodore football team made Saturday in Jackson at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium by defeating North Pike 31-6 in the Class 4A state championship game. The victory not only garnered the Lafayette High School Commodores their first football state title, but they also became the first team in the state to win 16 games in a season. (December 6, 2010, Page 1A)

                    Commodores win 4A North Half title
