LMS can’t top Marshall Academy

An improved effort wasn’t enough to lift the Lafayette Middle School baseball team to wins over Marshall Academy. Marshall defeated the Commodores, 9-5, 6-3, in a doubleheader at W.V. Brewer Field Thursday evening. (March 1, 2013, Page 7A)

          LHS to hold baseball tryouts

          Athletes who are interested in playing baseball for first-year coach Patrick Robey and are entering the ninth grade can tryout Aug. 13, 14 and 15 after school. The tryouts will go until 5:30 p.m. each day. (July 27, 2012, Page 7A)

            LHS completes run through NEMCABB

            NEW ALBANY — Lafayette’s bats continued to be as hot as tar under the Mississippi sun Wednesday.

              ‘Dores headed to NEMCABB semis

              NEW ALBANY — Lafayette’s run through the MHSAA Class 4A playoffs this past spring seems to be reforming in the annual NEMCABB Championship Tournament. After going 2-1 in regional pool play last week at Oxford’s Edwin Moak Field, the Commodores are off to a 3-0 start in the single-elimination portion of the tournament.                 Oxford tops Lafayette to earn top seed

                An intensity not seen since the spring was the backdrop of Friday night’s game between Lafayette and Oxford in the NEMCAAB Tournament Oxford Regional Final. The Chargers defeated the Commodores 5-3 at Edwin Moak Field to earn the top seed from regional play in this week’s single-elimination portion of the tournament being played in New Albany.

                For first-year Lafayette coach Patrick Robey, Friday’s title game was played with a noticeable difference compared to other summer league games. (June 25, 2012, Page 7)

                  OHS, LHS teams clobber Cougars

                  Oxford and Lafayette jump started the round robin portion NEMCABB Tournament in a big way Thursday at Edwin Moak Field.

                  Lafayette defeated Oxford’s junior varsity squad 6-0 and then defeated South Pontotoc 11-1 in five innings.

                  Oxford’s varsity then up-ended South Pontotoc 10-0 to conclude Day 1 of the Oxford Regional. (June 22, 2012, Page 6A)

                    Summer ball has added importance

                    Lafayette won’t play a game that counts in the MHSAA standings for over eight months.

                    While that may be true, the Commodores aren’t taking the summer off.
