A former Major Leaguer will soon embark on a tour of his home state in order to teach youngsters the fundamentals of baseball.
One of the stops will be Oxford.
Former Tigers and Nationals outfielder Nook Logan will bring his Catch, Throw, Hit and Run School of Baseball to Lafayette High School at the end of the month. Logan, a native of Natchez, will start his tour with a camp in his hometown on Saturday and hit Brookhaven, Brandon and McComb before making the tour’s fifth stop with a three-day clinic at LHS July 29-31. Tuesday night went about about as well as it could have for D.K. Buford and the rest of Lafayette’s seniors.
Buford, along with six teammates, were recognized on Senior Night at W.V. Brewer Field before the Commodores played their regular-season finale against Ripley, and the good vibes continued once the game started as Lafayette rolled to an 11-1 win in five innings that clinched the Region 2-4A title and the region’s top playoff seed. Lafayette and Oxford both won two games Monday at the NEMCABB Summer Championships being held at the New Albany Sportsplex. The Commodores bounced back from a 10-2 loss to the Chargers Friday night by defeating North Pontotoc 6-5 in the opener on the single-elimination tournament Monday. Lafayette will hold its annual baseball camp June 10-12 at W.V. Brewer Field from 9 a.m. to noon. The camp is for kids ages 6-13. Cost is $25 and includes a T-shirt. Campers can register the first morning of the camp. (May 16, 2013, Page 9)
The Northeast Mississippi Community College Tigers advanced to the MACJC state baseball tournament thanks to two wins over Gulf Coast Monday.
