Late-inning tag lifts Lafayette past Kosciusko
KOSCIUSKO — A dive, a drive and an outstanding individual effort on the mound proved to be the winning formula for the Lafayette Commodores to earn a 2-1 win over Kosciusko in the decisive game of a best-of-three Class 4A playoff series on Saturday.
LHS (22-5 overall) was able to advance to a second round matchup with North Pontotoc by holding off the Whippets when it mattered most. After LHS opened the series with an 11-3 win at home on Friday night, Kosciusko defeated the Commodores 9-4 in the second game to force the winner-take-all third game.

Lady ‘Dores keep rolling in 4A playoffs
A team-first approach made a huge difference for the Lafayette Lady Commodores in their first week of postseason play in the region tournament and again this past Monday in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs.
Lafayette defeated Itawamba AHS Monday to advance to the North Half tournament so it wasn’t shocking to see LHS continue that approach Thursday in a matchup with Kosciusko at Pontotoc High. Five Lady Commodores scored in double figures for coach Amy Sutton’s team and the end result was a 84-53 thrashing and a rematch of last year’s 4A North Half title game against New Albany tonight.
