Chizik brushes off doubts regarding Tigers

HOOVER, Ala. — Auburn coach Gene Chizik is visibly tired of questions relating to possible NCAA violations that may have occurred last season during the Tigers’ run to the BCS Championship.

During his time with the print media at Thursday’s Southeastern Conference Media Days session, Chizik was asked a handful of questions in different ways about the NCAA and rules violations. His answers didn’t vary much, although he did talk publicly about his conversation with an NCAA official that is involved with infractions. (July 22, 2011, Page 8A)

Bianco: Rebels showed grit in sweep

What stood out to Ole Miss baseball coach Mike Bianco from his team’s series against Kentucky wasn’t just the fact that the Rebels took all three games.

What stood out was the fact that all three games were close and the Rebels (23-14 overall) were still able to prevail. (April 19, 2011, Page 1B)

Rebels hold off ‘Cats to claim series

When Brett Huber struck out Kentucky catcher Luke Maile to preserve the 6-5 victory at Oxford-University Stadium on Sunday, the Rebels found themselves in unfamiliar territory — with a Southeastern Conference sweep, the first for the team since taking three games in Starkville last season.

It’s a feeling the Rebels sound like they could get used to, as the win puts them in a three-way tie with Alabama and Arkansas for first in the SEC West and fifth overall. (April 18, 2011, Page 1B)

          Wahl channeling his inner Huber

Relying on a freshman closer can sometimes equate to living on the wild side.

Ole Miss skipper Mike Bianco learned that last season when the Rebels turned to Brett Huber to close out games with Jake Morgan shelved due to Tommy John surgery. (more…) (April 18, 2011, Page 1B)

                  Hightower getting aggressive

Ole Miss catcher Taylor Hightower has seen a resurgence in his play this season for the Diamond Rebels.

After hitting .285 last season in 48 games, Hightower has seen his batting average sky rocket almost 100 points heading into this weekend’s home series against Kentucky.
