Tigers spoil Oxford’s Homecoming
Oxford’s chance to move another step closer to earning a spot in the Class 5A playoffs later this year was dealt a sizable setback Friday night by the Hernando Tigers at Bobby Holcomb Field.
The Chargers may have held the Tigers’ Wing T offense in check the first half of the Homecoming game, but the rarely seen offense definitely made an impact in the second half and in the overtime period of a game the Tigers ended up winning 31-30. (more…) (October 17, 2011, Page 3B)

Murphy shines in Lady Chargers’ win
No one must have told Oxford goalkeeper Megan Murphy that tonight’s game against Lake Cormorant was scheduled to be Senior Night.
On Wednesday, the senior keeper’s exceptional play lifted the Lady Chargers to a narrow 1-0 victory over Hernando to claim the District 1-5A championship.
In the nightcap, the Oxford boys were able to survive a late barrage to win 2-1.
Murphy had a pretty easy night until the final minutes of the game when she showed her experience time and time again to preserve the win, making an array of saves from point-blank range. (January 20, 2011, Page 6)
