Oxford High School quarterback Parker Adamson didn’t get off to an ideal start in Friday’s season opener against Grenada at Bobby Holcomb Field, throwing interceptions on two of his team’s first three possessions with one of them getting returned for a touchdown.
Adamson and his teammates didn’t let the slow start and 12-0 first-period deficit shake them, however, as they rallied to post a 28-22 victory in the battle of Charger lineups. Adamson finished the night passing for 205 yards and a pair of touchdowns to help his team gain a measure of revenge for last year’s loss at Grenada. (August 20, 2012, Page 1B)
If there is one thing Oxford High coach Johnny Hill wants to do in this year’s season opener compared to 2011 it’s not turn the ball over. Five turnovers, and some key penalties, prevented OHS from securing a win over Grenada on the road last year. Oxford ended up losing 16-15 to GHS in a game that had a controversial ending due to clock complications on the part of the referees.
Hill said Friday’s season opener against Grenada will come down to which team blocks, tackles, executes and protects the football. (August 16, 2012, Page 1B)
Two middle school baseball games didn’t end up going in favor of the Lafayette Commodores on Monday night. LMS lost 9-4 and 7-4 in a Tri-Lakes Conference doubleheader played in Grenada. Luke Gossett paced the offense in both games. He was 1-for-2 with three RBIs in the first contest and 1-for-2 with two RBIs in the second game. Mack Bishop recorded three strikeouts in the first contest, while Chipper Nix came on relief and pitched well in the second game. He finished with four strikeouts overall. Lafayette (0-3-1) will return to action Thursday at home against Water Valley at 5 p.m. (March 20, 2012, Page 6)

Oxford High football fans who attend Friday night’s game in Grenada should make sure and pick up a program. Not only will there be several new faces on the sideline for the Chargers, but Grenada is expected to field a young team led by first-year coach Ashley Kuhn.
Kuhn comes to Grenada after spending a season at Itawamba AHS. His name is familiar to locals who follow prep football because he served as Anthony Hart’s offensive coordinator at Lafayette a few seasons. (more…) (August 18, 2011, Page 1B)
