        ‘Bought-in’ LHS tops Grenada

It was hard to tell that the Lafayette Commodores hadn’t been in the gym but for three weeks as a team during Saturday night’s game with Grenada. Lafayette led the Chargers from start to finish in its contest in the annual Coach “C” Shootout by playing tough defense, rebounding and shooting high-percentage shots.

The end result was a 60-44 win for the Commodores, who are now 2-0 for the first time in several seasons. (December 10, 2012, Page 4B)

Lady ‘Dores need rally to top GHS

A second-half surge, paced by improved defense, ultimately led to a comfortable 51-34 win for the Lafayette Lady Commodores Saturday night in the annual Coach “C” Shootout in the LHS gym.

After a first half in which the Lady Commodores (4-1 overall) missed assignments on defense and had trouble scoring, they turned things around with a key third quarter that saw them outscore Grenada 19-8. (December 10, 2012, Page 4B)

OHS girls pound Grenada on defense

Grenada’s girls basketball team must have felt thinner after they left the Oxford High gym Thursday night thanks to the pressing Oxford’s Lady Chargers gave them. Utilizing a new 2-2-1 press on defense, Oxford dismantled Grenada 71-28 in a game that was very reminiscent of last year for an OHS team that routinely got up big on teams and pounded them into submission before halftime. Oxford wasn’t as fortunate in the nightcap as Grenada won the boys’ contest 68-55. (November 9, 2012, Page 6A)
