Tuesday’s local sports briefs include:

– Ben Hubbard made a hole-in-one at the recent Oxford Lady Charger Softball Benefit golf tourney played at the Country Club of Oxford

– ESPN announced Monday it plans to televise Ole Miss basketball games against Kentucky and Oregon this season.

– Ole Miss has promoted Lady Rebel assistant tennis coach Jason Ontog to associate head coach.

– Registration is open for the fifth annual Lafayette Commodore Baseball Golf Tournament set for Sept. 14. (August 20, 2013, Page 7)

      Yalobusha C.C. hosting golf scramble

      The Yalobusha Country Club will be holding a six-person golf scramble Sept. 22-23. Tee times are set for 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. Cost per team is $540, while cost per person is $90. Call the YCC for more information at 473-2401. (August 22, 2012, Page 7)

            Golf camp at Country Club of Oxford

            Junior golfers of all ages can learn valuable skills at two summer camps offered at the Country Club of Oxford. Ricky Hamilton, head golf professional, and assistant Todd Abbott will lead the camps and instruct young golfers on various aspects of the game such as fundamentals, chipping, putting, full swing and etiquette.                 OPC/Double Decker Golf Tournament

                The Country Club of Oxford will be hosting the second annual OPC/Double Decker Golf Tournament on April 29 with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.

                  Honor for ‘Preacher’ Lovelady very fitting

                  Family members are putting together a very fitting tribute to Morris “Preacher” Lovelady, who’s contributed so much to the Lafayette-Oxford-University community through his work on campus, with the summer baseball programs and with Boy Scouts. The “Preacher” Lovelady Silver Beaver Golf Scramble, set for July 17 at the University Golf Course, will honor Lovelady and benefit one of his favorite causes. (June 18, 2010, Page 4A)
