OHS starting to shake rust off
The first high school football game may still be 64 days away, but area teams are already gearing up for the 2012 season through various passing leagues. The annual 7-on-7 workouts at Oxford High School were supposed to have started the first Monday in June, but rain the past two weeks postponed the first set of games at Bobby Holcomb Field until this past Wednesday.
Two Oxford teams competed against Water Valley, Marshall Academy, Charleston and Potts Camp in the late afternoon trying to get the rust off and in some sort of shape heading into the annual O-Zone Classic 7-on-7 tournament this weekend at FNC Park. (June 14, 2012, Page 7)
County OKs funds for park practice facility
A new indoor practice facility at FNC Park is soon to be a reality after the Lafayette County Board of Supervisors approved $75,000, their portion of the project, on Monday. (May 22, 2012, Page 1, 2)
Donor offers to help fund IPF
Thanks to an unnamed donor, FNC Fields may soon have what Aldermen E.O. Oliver described as it’s own “little IPF.”
Brad Freeman, with the Oxford Park Commission, presented very preliminary plans to the Board of Aldermen for a new Indoor Practice Facility at FNC. However, that can only be accomplished if the aldermen and Lafayette County Board of Supervisors agree to the terms of an unnamed donor who has pledged $150,000 toward the new facility. BMX track waits for grass
Before Oxford’s new BMX bike track can be used, the Mississippi Department of Transportation, which helped fund the project, requires that the entire track be covered in permanent grass to prevent erosion. A BMX track special contractor would then come in to build five jumps to make the track suitable for tournaments and BMX-sanctioned events. (March 1, 2012, Page 1)
Wild weather hits Oxford
With almost three inches of rain and accounts of golf ball sized hail, Oxford saw some damages in Wednesday’s storm. The biggest damage was at FNC Park where part of the entrance was washed away. (April 21, 2011, Page 1)

County, city discuss road projects
Lafayette County supervisors and Oxford officials met Monday with Mississippi Department of Transportation District Engineer Richard Allen to discuss the future of three area road projects, including the interchange at West Jackson Avenue and Highway 6, and extending West Oxford Loop to FNC Park. Easter egg hunts planned
The Oxford Park Commission’s Easter Egg Hunt is one of several Easter events planned for this weekend. Unfortunately, the National Weather Service says there is a 60-percent change of rain that could force many of the events to be canceled or rescheduled. (April 1, 2010, Page 1)
