Cochran wins runoff

Six-term Mississippi Sen. Thad Cochran beat challenger Chris McDaniel for the win in a tight Republican runoff race earning 50.9 percent of the votes.

In Lafayette County, voters continued to back Cochran giving him about 67 percent of the votes. (June 24, 2014, Page 1, 14)

                  Time for a change

                  Lafayette County Tax Assessor/Collector Martha Thornton said, after 36 years, it’s time for new blood in the tax assessors’ office.

                  Thornton, who has served Lafayette County as its tax assessor and collector since 2000, will not be seeking reelection in this year’s county elections.
