Jessica Pearson always had a knack of turning nothing into something.

Lafayette’s Rafnson wins Player of the Year award
On a senior-laden Lafayette volleyball squad this season, it was junior Charlotte Rafnson that stood out most.
Despite being a first-time starter at libero, Rafnson was an integral part of a Lady Commodores team that advanced to the North Half title game and finished with a 16-7 record, and because of Rafnson’s leadership and acrobatic playing style, she is the 2010 Oxford EAGLE Player of the Year. Hervey dealing for North Delta
Monday night’s gusty weather at the New Albany Sportsplex could be attributed to the thunderstorms that rolled in. Or it could be attributed to the amount of swings and misses that took place during the North Delta Dealers’ showdown with the Tallahatchie Rascals.
To say Tank Hervey was dialed in on Monday night would not do his performance justice.
Not even close.
Of the 17 Rascals outs that the right-hander collected during the rain-suspended Cotton States Baseball League game, which was called after 5.2 innings with the Dealers ahead 3-0, 12 were strikeouts. (June 29, 2010, Page 8)
Robison’s return to LHS makes impact on team
The final chapter in Stormy Robison’s prep softball career has turned out to be another stepping stone for the ever improving Lafayette Lady Commodore softball program.
After spending two seasons at South Panola, Robison returned to LHS this past season to finish out her stellar career at the place she has always felt very comfortable at.
While Robison wasn’t ultimately able to push LHS to even greater heights in the Class 4A playoffs, her leadership qualities and strong work ethic definitely made an impression on a young LHS team that is expected to be strong over the next few years.
Robison said she really enjoyed her time with her teammates this year and added that she never felt any pressure from them to help them win a state title like she helped the Lady Tigers do in 2008. (June 24, 2010, Page 1B)
Johnson’s passion propels him to Player of the Year award
When the 2011 baseball season gets underway next spring, it won’t be surprising if Water Valley Blue Devils head coach Doug Robbins has to make two lineup cards at the season opener. While standout shortstop/pitcher Josh Johnson will be in Senatobia playing for the Northwest Mississippi Community College Rangers, having his name in the lineup won’t be easy thing for Robbins to erase.
Johnson has been a regular in the Blue Devils’ starting nine since he was in middle school and the impact he’s made in the program, starting with the 2006 season, has been huge. (June 23, 2010, Page 1B)
Isom’s all-around game leads to Player of Year honor
There was a game early on in the season where the light turned on for Lafayette’s Shaquilla Isom and things got a whole lot easier on the court. It’s not that Isom hadn’t shown flashes of her all-around ability as a sophomore, but there was a marked difference in the way she handled herself on the court compared to any point during the 2008-09 campaign.
