Fake pot banned

City joins county in making ‘spice’ illegal. A public hearing was held in City Hall and no proposal was made for or against the substance until Alderman Janice Antonow made a motion to make the ban effective immediately due to health concerns. The ordinance makes the possession, use or sale of any synthetic marijuana a misdemeanor with a possible $1,000 fine and up to six months in jail. (August 18, 2010)

    Sunday sales OK with owners

    If Sunday alcohol sales are allowed in Oxford, most local bar and restaurant operators say they would support expanding alcohol services. A survey conducted by the Oxford EAGLE found that most restaurants are in support of Sunday sales and agree the issue is important, but owners are not sure if they would open just because of alcohol sales. (August 16, 2010, Page 1)

      Can Square be improved?

      Oxford city leaders will unveil a Square Enhancement Project on Tuesday. Oxford leaders will consider whether the Square can be improved by making the historic downtown area more pedestrian friendly.

      Details of the project will be unveiled at Tuesday’s 6 p.m. Board of Aldermen meeting. Mayor Pat Patterson said at least part of this new initiative involves improving parking and pedestrian access. (August 2, 2010, Page 1)
