    CHS Tigers no match for WVHS boys

    The Water Valley Blue Devils basketball squad opened up the Valley Classic with a bang on Thursday, cruising to a 68-44 victory over Charleston at the WVHS gym, while the girls fell victim to too many turnovers in a 60-55 overtime loss to Charleston.

    After mounting an early six-point lead after the first quarter, the Blue Devils’ offense never hit a lull and was able to extend its lead to as many as 36 early in the fourth quarter. (December 3, 2010, Page 9A)

      Oxford cages O’Bannon, CHS Tigers

      The Oxford Chargers’ 24-14 win over Charleston on Friday accomplished more than just revenge.

      The win exorcised demons that had been with the Chargers for over a year.

      Prior to the game at Bobby Holcomb Field, it was obvious the players were focused on gaining atonement from last year’s 31-13 loss and it showed on the field. (August 30, 2010, Page 1B)

        OHS avenges loss to Charleston with 24-14 win

          Chargers looking for some revenge tonight against CHS

          Oxford will be seeking revenge tonight when the Chargers host Charleston at Bobby Holcomb Field. Kickoff is set for 7:30 and the game can be heard on 95.5 FM.

          For OHS defensive lineman Terry Johnson, last year’s 31-13 loss to the Tigers had him upset and ready for some redemption (August 27, 2010, Page 6A)

            Chargers looking for revenge against Tigers

            What keeps Terry Johnson awake at night isn’t the upcoming chemistry exam. It’s not coach Johnny Hill’s rigorous workout regiment and it’s definitely not the Boogy Man.

            What gives Oxford’s 6-foot-4, 270-pound defensive end the shivers to think about is last year’s loss at Charleston.

            Sophomore running back Percy O’Bannon and senior quarterback Willie Bradford carved up Oxford’s defense, combining for five touchdowns en route to a 31-13 victory that night. (August 26, 2010, Page 6)

                Chargers split games on Opening Day

                OXFORD CHARGERS BASEBALL — The Oxford Chargers had an up-and-down opening day on Saturday, winning it’s first game against the Charleston Tigers 20-0, before falling to the Olive Branch Conquistadors 20-3 in the tail end of their home double-header. (March 1, 2010, Page 9)
