Counting college students complicated
Oxford and other college towns have a vested interest in making sure students fill out their census forms by April 1.The number of students living in a county helps determine the number of seats in Congress a state might have, how many federal dollars can be funneled to a state and its communities, and how much student loan money is doled out.
But, as Oxford and University of Mississippi officials are well aware, obtaining an accurate student head count is no easy task.
Counting heads begins next week
The U.S. Census Bureau mailed out a heads-up this week informing all households to be prepared to have their heads ready to be counted for the 2010 Census population count. (March 12, 2010, Page 1A)
