Grey leads LHS baseball past Byhalia

Lafayette senior pitcher Cody Grey punctuated his standout season with a shutout over Byhalia on Tuesday night.

Grey improved to 7-0 on the year as the Commodores rolled past the Indians, 12-0 in five innings, at W.V. Brewer Field. Grey logged three innings of work and finished with four strikeouts and no hits. (more…) (April 20, 2011, Page 2B)

    Lafayette softball captures region

    Lafayette’s girls softball team continued to play well and demonstrate a potent offense with a 21-2 win over Byhalia on Tuesday night. The victory allowed the Lady Commodores to capture the Region 2-4A regular season title and finish as the No. 1 seed heading into the Class 4A playoffs next week. (more…) (April 20, 2011, Page 2B)

      LHS baseball downs Byhalia

      The Commodores scored early and often in their 18-1 win over Byhalia on Monday night. In the second to last region game of the year, LHS (19-4 overall, 8-1 in region play) scored six runs in the top of the first inning, eight in the second and four in the fourth.         Isom leads LHS to 2-4A tourney title

        Led by a strong defensive effort and an outstanding all-around performance by Shaq Isom, the Lafayette Lady Commodores captured the Region 2-4A Tournament title Monday night at Center Hill.

        LHS defeated Byhalia 70-43 to finish as the No. 1 seed out of the region. The Lady Commodores (23-5) will host Itawamba AHS tonight in the first round of the MHSAA’s Class 4A playoffs and a win gets them closer to a return trip to Jackson to play for the state title. (February 15, 2011, Page 6)

          Dennis, Liggins pace ‘Dores in rout

          The Lafayette Commodores’ star players on offense, Jeremy Liggins and Demarkus Dennis, performed exceptionally well in front of a large, raucous Homecoming crowd Friday night at William L. Buford Stadium. Liggins and Dennis combined for seven touchdowns as the Commodores smashed the Byhalia Indians 52-0 in the Region 2-4A contest.

          LHS coach Anthony Hart was very pleased with his team’s overall performance in the one-sided win. (September 27, 2010, Page 3B)
