    Silver bars from hospital sale to be sold

    During a special meeting Monday, the Lafayette County Board of Supervisors voted to declare the 40 bars of silver given to the city of Oxford and the county by Baptist Memorial Hospital officials as surplus property, allowing the silver to be sold and that money going into the county’s general fund. (September 27, 2011, Page 1)

      Baptist buys hospital

      After two long years of negotiations, Baptist Memorial Health Care Corp purchased the South Lamar and Belk boulevard building of its BMH North Mississippi hospital for $60 million and an additional $5.6 million from its Health Trust Fund. The city and county will jointly share the profits. The hospital will move forward with building a new $250 million facility in Oxford. (August 18, 2011, Page 1A)

        Forgotten stash of silver discovered

        Local officials have discovered 4,200 ounces of silver nitrate, or $200,000 worth of silver, in a lock box tucked away since 1989 from the former x-ray machines at the county hospital. (August 17, 2011, Page 1)

          City mulls use of windfall

          What would you do if you suddenly had $30 million? That is the question city leaders need to help decide along with a new Oxford Reserve and Trust Fund Committee when they receive the money from the sale of Baptist Memorial Hospital – North Mississippi.                     A new hospital by 2016?
