Local teachers welcomed back parents and students in several area open houses this week with more to come next week. School started back for K-12 students on Thursday. (August 5, 2011, Page 1B)

      Welcoming the arrival of a new year

      News Editor Jonathan Scott wishes everyone a Happy New Year, and then proceeds to explain that many of us look at August and the start of school as the beginning of the year more so than January.         Tax-free weekend underway

        Parents and college students shopping for back-to-school clothing will get a small break today and Saturday during Mississippi’s tax-free holiday which began at midnight  and ends Saturday night. (July 30, 2010, Page 1A)
