Williams has career day in win over AU

NEW ORLEANS — In an arena where NBA stars shine on a regular basis, Ole Miss junior guard Nick Williams performed like a professional standout for the Rebels Thursday night.

Williams led the resurgent Rebels to a 68-54 win over Auburn in the first round of the 2012 Southeastern Conference Men’s Basketball Tournament by scoring a career-high 22 points. Williams, who came in averaging just over 10 points a game, was sensational shooting the ball from the field. He made mid-range jumpers — the shots he feels most comfortable taking and making — as well as four 3-pointers on eight attempts. (more…) (March 9, 2012, Page 6A)

        Rebels focused on first opponent

        Ole Miss coach Andy Kennedy said he would love to see if his team’s perceived lack of depth would become a problem in the late stages of this week’s Southeastern Conference Tournament at the New Orleans Arena. Kennedy was asked during Monday’s Southeastern Conference men’s basketball teleconference if depth issues could hurt as the Rebels move on in the tournament that begins Thursday night against Auburn. (March 6, 2012, Page 6)

          Rebels avoid loss to Auburn with rally

          Lifeless and looking for a spark. That’s the best way to describe how the Ole Miss Rebels played in the first half of their game with Auburn at C.M. “Tad” Smith Coliseum Saturday night and what they needed to remedy the problem.

          On the verge of letting another sub-par shooting performance take its toll in the loss column, the Rebels snatched a win from the jaws of defeat thanks to the heroic efforts of junior Murphy Holloway and some timely shooting from some players that had been lacking confidence.
