Lady ‘Dores get glimpse of future

AMORY — The Lafayette Lady Commodores may have gotten a glimpse of their future Thursday night.

Leading the home Amory Lady Panthers onto the pitch was senior Addie Forbus, a future Ole Miss soccer player fresh off setting the state’s career goal mark (228) last week.

Meanwhile, LHS freshman Ally Houghton, a soft-spoken sniper in her own right, appears poised to pick up where Forbus leaves off and make her own mark on the Magnolia State. (more…) (January 25, 2013, Page 10A)

‘Dores pitch their way into 4A quarters

It took a veteran pitching performance from senior Luke Stanley for a young Lafayette Commodores team to blank Amory 3-0 on Thursday.

The next day, Lafayette turned the ball over to right-hander Eli Murphree and the freshman responded.

Murphree allowed one run over six innings before turning the ball over to Stanley to close out the 2-1 victory at W.V. Brewer Field.
With the win, the Commodores (18-10 overall) advance to the quarterfinals of the MHSAA Class 4A playoffs to face Region 2-4A foe New Albany. (April 30, 2012, Page 6)

Chargers learn from sweep of Amory

As Chris Baughman found out Monday, there’s nothing wrong with learning a thing or two on your birthday.

Due to poor weather over the weekend, a pair of four-inning jamboree games was rescheduled for Baughman’s birthday at Edwin Moak Field and the Chargers made the doubleheader a learning experience. (more…) (February 21, 2012, Page 8)

Pressure on Williams key to stopping Amory

AMORY — It seems funny to write a team “limited” an opposing quarterback to 193 yards passing, but that’s exactly what the Commodores did on Friday night when they held one of the nation’s top statistical passers in Amory quarterback Forest Williams well under his average of nearly 400 yards.
