Fifth annual fish fry

A celebration in memory of Robert Parker will feature music by the Fishers of Men gospel group, a cake walk and raffle, with lots of stuff to be given away. There will be food provided and T-shirts for sale. The event will be held at Friends Park in Tula. (June 1, 2010)

MDOT projects moving forward

Work to replace three bridges in Lafayette County is about 50 percent complete, according to the Mississippi Department of Transportation. The bridges, all located on Highway 331 in the Tula area, are being replaced by Talbot Brothers Construction and Grading of Nesbit. (April 7, 2010, Page 2)

The Blackjack Connection

Gospel-country pickers are learning from each other as they gather on Mondays for informal jam sessions. Blackjack Connection, named after the host site, was created about 10 years ago by Bobby Phelps and now includes a wide variety of people from the community who gather for music, fun and fellowship. (April 2, 2010, Page 1B)

City considers buying Bell Utilities

The Oxford Board of Aldermen and Mayor Pat Patterson are considering a request from Bell Utilities to purchase the water and sewer company that currently serves county residents. But according to financial records, Bell Utilities is losing $198,735 a year in water service revenue and $155,501 in sewer service revenue. (January 11, 2010, Page 1)
