Van Buren work begins Wednesday
Van Buren and South 11th Street will be closed to traffic for most of the summer as the city updates the sewer, water and electrical systems on that side of the Square. Updates will be available at the city’s web site, www.oxfordms.net or on the city of Oxford’s Facebook page. The EAGLE will also run updates periodically. A meeting was held Thursday with several business owners on Van Buren to update them on the construction project that will begin Wednesday and be completed in August. (May 11, 2012, Page 1A, 14A)

Oxford’s first female police officer dies at 80
Martha Quay Barton Hudson, 80, died Friday at Baptist Memorial Hospital. She was Oxford’s first unofficial female police officer who worked on the Square doing traffic control when Oxford Elementary was located where the U.S. Federal Building now stands. (April 11, 2011, Page 2A)
