Steel Magnolias: Popular play breaks tradition

Theater Oxford’s rendition of the iconic 1987 play, Steel Magnolias opened Wednesday and runs through Sunday at The Powerhouse. Director Mike Ewing broke tradition and cast the show with actors who were deserving of the roles, even if they differed in appearance from the type of people traditionally cast in the roles. (August 24, 2012, Page 1B, 2B)

Three win Sustainbility Leadership awards for work

Three local people were awarded the 2012 Green Week Sustainability Leadership Award Wednesday night during a ceremony at the Powerhouse. Trey McCain, Taylor Cook and Missy Hopkins beat out eight other finalist to be honored for their work promoting sustainable living in Oxford. (April 20, 2012, Page 2A)

County restores YAC funding

The Lafayette County Board of Supervisors approved 3 to 2 giving $15,000 to the Yoknapatawpha Arts Council during their regular meeting Monday. Last month, YAC was denied the funding, however Supervisor Robert Blackmon changed his vote Monday, granting YAC the funds. (November 8, 2011, Page 1)

Lithuanian dancer hopes to help others break free

Lithuanian contemporary dancer, Denisas Kolonychis, will perform at The Powerhouse tonight at 7 p.m. There is no charge however, a donation to the arts is appreciated. (December 14, 2010, Page 3)
