Dean Faulkner Wells 1936-2011

OXFORD TOWN – An Oxford icon, Dean Faulkner Wells, passed away on Wednesday, July 27, just months after her memoir “Every Day By The Sun” published and was featured on the cover of Oxford Town. OT columnist and long time friend of the Wells family, Jim Dees, has gathered photos and passages from interviews and the late author’s’ book to pay tribute to one of Oxford’s favorite daughters who is already greatly missed. 38th Annual Faulkner Conference begins Sunday, July 17

OXFORD TOWN – The complexities of space and place, borders impenetrable or porous, will be explored at the 38th annual Faulkner & Yoknapatawpha Conference, scheduled July 17-21 at the University of Mississippi. Dean Faulkner Wells releases memoir

OXFORD TOWN – Local author Dean Faulkner Wells releases and signs her memoir about growing up Faulkner titled “Every Day By The Sun” on Saturday, March 19, at the Lyric Theater. Authors Franklin, Pendarvis, Durkee, Thompson and others are scheduled read from the book. Athletes roll in for Oxford’s first Endurance Weekend

Rowan Oak extends hours

Rowan Oak will now be open on Mondays this summer as well as additional evening hours for the summer. The change was due to demand from visitors. The museum is also now a member of the Blue Star program which allows active duty military and their families free access to the museum until Sept. 1. (June 1, 2010, Page 3A)

Healthy meals, Rowan Oak gardens projects underway

Members of the 2010 Leadership Lafayette Class are working on three different projects designed to improve the community. One group wants to help provide children from low-income families with easy-to-prepare meals they can make themselves while at home on the weekends. Another group is working on renovating some of the gardens at Rowan Oak, and the third group is working with local restaurants to promote some of the healthier meals available at these businesses. (May 21, 2010, Page 1A)
