VOX PRESS returns to the Powerhouse

OXFORD TOWN – VOX PRESS presents “Noises from the Nerve Center Collective,” an evening of experimental music and literature, on Tuesday, Nov. 29, at the Powerhouse Community Arts Center on University Avenue in Oxford. The event is part of a documetary project and is free and open to the public. Scratch This

OXFORD TOWN – Local artist and University of Mississippi printmaking instructor Katherine Rhodes Fields invites people to scratch and sniff her latest artwork at a reception to be held for her on Tuesday, Sept. 27, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Powerhouse Community Arts Center located at 413 South 14th St. Turn to Page 7 in this week’s issue of Oxford Town to read about Fields’ new exhibit. (September 22, 2011, Page 7)

Art abounds around town

OXFORD TOWN – Last week, the University Museum unveiled its latest art exhibit “One World, Two Artists; John Alexander and Walter Anderson” headlining a frenzied art explosion all around the L-O-U community. Other exhibits include the showing of Bozarts Art Gallery’s exhibit “12 Invite 12,” the Powerhouse’s ongoing exhibit “Costal Art Show” and a new exhibit at Southside Gallery (photos on Page 12). The 2010 painting on the Oxford Town cover this week is titled “Octopus” by Alexander and the photo seen here titled “Stormy Monday” is also by Alexander. The Oxford Art Crawl returns in a big way

OXFORD TOWN – Back by popular demand, the Oxford Art Crawl returns as a regular summer event and everyone’s invited. Featured stops on Tuesday, June 28, will include Gallery 130, the Powerhouse, the University Museum and several other venues. Front Porch Dance set for the Powerhouse

OXFORD TOWN – A Jackson-based troupe of artists called Front Porch Dance is leading a journey through music and dance this weekend, with a special performance called “thislocation” Saturday night at the Powerhouse Community Arts Center. The group’s Oxford performance is sponsored by the Yoknapatawpha Arts Council and the Mississippi Arts Commission. Doors open at 6:30 and the performance begins at 7:30. Theatre Oxford gets ‘Pretty’ at Powerhouse

Urban Bush Women to inspire Oxford

OXFORD TOWN – Urban Bush Women, a contemporary dance company, is slated to perform Jan. 17 at the University of Mississippi’s Gertrude C. Ford Center for the Performing Arts. In addition to the performance on Monday, the company will be conducting free workshops in different areas of the community and a community Pot-luck Dinner will be held at 6 p.m. at The Powerhouse. YAC swings in the New Year this Friday

OXFORD TOWN – A jam-packed new year of programming sponsored by the Yoknapatawpha Arts Council kicks off Friday, Jan. 7, with a Swing Dance Contest at the Powerhouse. Profits from the fundraiser goes toward improvements at YAC headquarters, specifically for a new dance floor. ‘Kringle’s Window’ opens today
