Yocona International Folk Festival returns to Powerhouse, Ford Center

OXFORD TOWN – Visitors can immerse themselves in the sights, sounds and tastes from all over the world as a multitude of diverse cultures, languages, food, and musical performances collide at the sixth annual Yocona International Folk Festival. Page 7 in Oxford Town No. 991 has details about this year’s festival that officially begins with a kickoff event to be held in Oxford on Saturday, Aug. 11. Hinge Dance Company returns to the Powerhouse

OXFORD TOWN – Hinge Dance Company presents a night of dance, art and music for three nights at the Powerhouse — Thursday, April 19, through Saturday, April 21. The event is titled “Down Home Transit” and all three performances begin at 7:30. General admission seating is $10 in advance and $12 at the door. Bays Guyer band to perform at Oxford Art Crawl

OXFORD TOWN  – On Tuesday, April 17, two veteran rockabilly, blues and R&B performers — Bud Bays and Kevin Guyer — will debut their new four-piece band during the April edition of the Oxford Art Crawl from 7-9 p.m. at the Powerhouse in Oxford. Chad Harris releases new EP; set for OLHS fundraiser Friday, April 6 

OXFORD TOWN – While the EP won’t officially be released until May, Oxford will get the first chance to enjoy native son Chad Harris’ new album “Burning Daylight” on Friday, April 6, at the Powerhouse Community Arts Center. “Best Seat in the House” auction to benefit YAC

OXFORD TOWN – March’s Art Crawl, scheduled for Tuesday, March 27, from 7-9 p.m., features a special exhibit at the Powerhouse titled “Best Seat In The House.” Local artists have created unique chairs that are being auctioned to raise money for the renovation of the theater area at the Powerhouse. Arts Talk: Southside Gallery features the “Burlap Exhibit”

OXFORD TOWN – Southside Gallery is featuring a new exhibit this month titled “Burlap.” The exhibit is a family show featuring couple Linda Burgess and William Dunlap and their daughter, Maggie Dunlap. Head out to Southside to see this exhibit either at the Art Crawl on March 27 or at a reception to be held Friday, March 23, from 7-9 p.m. If you can’t make either of those events, Southside Gallery is conveniently open from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. OXFORD TOWN – Oxford’s second Fiber Arts Festival is set to re-launch this weekend at the Powerhouse touting activities fro the whole family. The event is hosted by Knit1 Oxford and the Yoknapatawpha Arts Council. ‘Downton Abbey’ set for Powerhouse next Tuesday

OXFORD TOWN – For fans of the breakout Masterpiece hit “Downton Abbey,” season two may come a bit early as The Friends of Mississippi Public Broadcasting will hold a sneak preview of the popular drama Jan. 3 at 7 p.m. at the Powerhouse Community Arts Center in Oxford. OXFORD TOWN – VOX PRESS presents “Noises from the Nerve Center Collective,” an evening of experimental music and literature, on Tuesday, Nov. 29, at the Powerhouse Community Arts Center on University Avenue in Oxford. The event is part of a documetary project and is free and open to the public.
