Music for Meditation, to embrace a decade of healing since Sept. 11, 2001, will be presented Sunday by organist Jason Derrick in the Oxford-University United Methodist Church sanctuary, corner University Avenue and 10th Street. This music-only memorial meditation service is free and open to all.
A special morning service will serve as a tribute to emergency responders at New Prospect Baptist Church, 823 Highway 334. The 10:30 a.m. service will provide an opportunity for the community to show its support and appreciation to all of its emergency responders — fire and police officers as well as EMTs. The responders will be honored with a small gift and appreciation dinner following the service. (September 6, 2011)
Organizers have postponed Thursday’s Empty Bowls fundraiser until Monday due to snow. The annual event invites community members to purchase a handmade bowl and a lunch of soup and bread for $15 to benefit The Pantry, Oxford’s community food bank. (February 9, 2011)
The eighth annual Empty Bowls fundraiser for The Pantry will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the Oxford-University United Methodist Church.

The annual Empty Bowls fundraiser to benefit The Pantry will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 10 at the Oxford-University United Methodist Church, North Ninth and University Avenue. Reserved parking will be available for patrons in the church parking lot at Tyler Avenue and 10th Street. For $15, participants get a bowl of soup, a piece of bread and a bottle of water, as well as an empty, collectors bowl, crafted and donated by the University of Mississippi “Mud Daubers.” Funds raised with benefit The Pantry, the local food bank.
