OHS stages ‘Blood Brothers’

Oxford High School drama students will stage the challenging musical, “Blood Brothers,” as their first play of the 2010-11 school year. The show opens tonight at the OHS auditorium at 7:30 and again Friday and Saturday at the same times. (September 23, 2010, Page 1)

Parallel parking becoming a lost art?

Very few Drivers’ Ed instructors teach parallel parking outside the classroom and inside the car any more and it’s long been dropped as the traditional ending to a driver’s road test. You can help decide Monday whether the Oxford School District moves forward with a possible $30 million bond referendum to build a new high school and make other capital improvements. Oxford busy building new softball field

Softball athletes will have their own turf this year as the newly constructed softball field behind Oxford High School will near completion this winter. Louis Lamb, the district employee serving as the general contractor, said that the field “is going to be nice. They’ve never had that before.” (July 13, 2010, Page 1B)

Co-ed football camp offers both genders chance to enhance athletic ability

NFL player Terrance Metcalf wants all youth to learn the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.
Metcalf, founder of the Metcalf-Holden Outreach Foundation, wants to enhance the growth and development of children by providing a positive atmosphere through recreational activities.

The foundation will help achieve that goal by hosting its first Co-ed Football Camp this Saturday at Oxford High School. (June 22, 2010, Page 3)

First Lady writes OHS Class of 2010

First Lady Michelle Obama wished the Oxford High School Class of 2010 well in a letter addressed to recent graduate Cathy Chen after Chen launched an effort to invite the president and Mrs. Obama to the school to speak to the graduating class. (June 15, 2010, Page 5)

40th OHS Charger football reunion

A 40th reunion of the 1970 Oxford High School Charger football team is set for Saturday, July 17. Team members will assemble at the OHS athletic facility building for a tour at 5:30 p.m. and proceed to Hickman cabin on Woodson Ridge Road for food and fellowship. Reservations are $20 per person and are required prior to July 4.
