Oxford Conference Center

Primary election set for Tuesday

Two ward seats will be decided in Tuesday’s primary election with only Democrat candidates running in wards 4 and 5. The democratic candidate for mayor will also be decided. The primary election will be held at the Oxford Conference Center this year. For years, it’s been held at the Oxford Activity Center but city officials moved the election to the OCC to better accommodate larger crowds and in anticipation of tennis court construction. Voting begins at 7 a.m. and polls will close at 7 p.m. (May 6, 2013, Page 1A)

Local political forum very encouraging

Tuesday night’s political forum had it all – humor, information, ideas, et cetera. It was also very encouraging, Editor Don Whitten writes, in that all of the candidates make it clear they’re genuinely concerned about the future of Oxford. (May 1, 2013, Page 4)

Multi-purpose building deserves close look

What do counties surrounding Lafayette have that we don’t? How about a multi-purpose building or center? Editor Don Whitten takes a look at a proposal that Earl Babb is taking to the Lafayette County Board of Supervisors next week that makes the possibility of such a facility look like a win-win situation for the L-O-U community. (February 17, 2012, Page 4A)
