UM hosts 18th Annual Conference for the Book this weekend

OXFORD TOWN – Oxford’s 18th Annual Conference for the Book begins today (Thursday, March 24) on the Ole Miss campus featuring Karen Russell (pictured) and many other renowned authors. The conference collaborates with Thacker Mountain Radio at Off Square Books tonight and lasts through Saturday, March 26. Author Mark Richard set for Off Square Books next Wednesday (Feb. 23)

OXFORD TOWN – Author Mark Richard will be in Oxford on Wednesday, Feb. 23, hosting a book signing and reading at Off Square Books in support of his recently released memoir, “House of Prayer No. 2: A Writer’s Journey Home.” Page 5 in this issue of Oxford Town has full details about the former Grisham writer-in-residence’s return to Oxford next week. Thacker Mountain Radio returns to Off Square Books

OXFORD TOWN – This week, Thacker Mountain Radio will be back at Off Square Books to celebrate the great migration of black Americans in the mid-20th Century when they left the Jim Crow South in pursuit of a life with dignity. The broadcast will feature author Isabel Wilkerson (pictured) and musical guests The Mighty Gospel Warriors. Michael Oher returns to Oxford

OXFORD TOWN – Just weeks after wrapping up his second NFL season with the Ravens, Michael Oher is now touring in support of his new book and its message. The former Ole Miss Rebel tackle will be back in Oxford next week (Tuesday, Feb. 15) signing copies of “I Beat The Odds” at 5 p.m. at Off Square Books. John-Alex Mason set for Thacker Mountain and Rooster’s Blues House

OXFORD TOWN – The one-man blues show, John-Alex Mason (pictured), is set for two performances tonight (Thursday, Feb. 3) in Oxford. Catch him at the season premier broadcast of  Thacker Mountain Radio at 6 at Off Square Books and later at Rooster’s Blues House on the Square. Rodney Crowell set for Off Square Books tonight (Jan. 20)

OXFORD TOWN – Innate storyteller and country music legend Rodney Crowell is scheduled to visit Off Square Books tonight (Jan. 20) at 6 as he tours in support of his recently released memoir “Chinaberry Sidewalks.” Check out page 5 in this week’s issue of Oxford Town for Oxford Town Editor Jeff McVay’s coverage of his recent interview with Crowell where they discussed everything from Crowell’s “rough” childhood (that evolved into something good) to his classic, poetic storytelling through his music. Thacker Mountain Radio wraps season at Lyric Theater with packed lineup

OXFORD TOWN – Thacker Mountain Radio completes a bustling 2010 season tonight (Thursday, Nov. 18) at the Lyric Theater featuring authors Jesmyn Ward and Jack Pendarvis (pictured),  musical guests Sam Mosley, The Hot Seats and the Thacker Mountain house band, The Yalobushwhackers. Cookbook signing
