Polar vortex – now that’s a cool name

With hurricanes, typhoons and major storms all getting names these days, Editor Don Whitten writes that he thought “polar vortex” was the name of the latest storm that rolled through much of the country. He then learned it’s not a name of a storm, but the name of a weather phenomenon. (January 10, 2014, Page 4A)

Popular Santa letters section coming Friday

It’s one of the most popular special sections The Oxford EAGLE publishes. And it – the Seasons’ Greeting section that includes all those letters to Santa from local youngsters – comes out in Friday’s paper. It’s time for letters to – and from – Santa

While school children around the area are working on letters to Santa Claus that are printed in the annual Season’s Greetings section of The Oxford EAGLE, Editor Don Whitten came across a letter recently from good ol’ Saint Nick himself asking about the correspondence from the LOU community. (December 9, 2013, Page 4A)
