National Guard

On Monday, recognize the meaning of Memorial Day

With Memorial Day around the corner, L-O-U veterans organizations are gearing up for the holiday, and remembering the lives of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice in fighting for the freedom of our country. Some of those veterans, including Vietnam veteran and retired Marine Master Sgt. Gene Hays, want to make sure the community understands the true meaning of Memorial Day, and why it is not appropriate to tell someone “Happy Memorial Day.” (May 22, 2015, Page 1A)

Veterans Day Ceremony

A Veterans Day Ceremony will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the National Guard Armory off Sisk Avenue. This program is to honor all veterans. The entire community is invited to share in this tribute to area veterans. Those with American flags are urged to bring them. The Oxford Middle School Band will perform patriotic music and the official service will begin at 11. The program is sponsored by The American Legion Post 55, Disabled American Veterans Chapter 48 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3978. (November 8, 2010)
